The Mupli Beetle is a pest that is most commonly found in homes during the rainy season, in humid areas, and in areas with farm-lands, in Kerala. This beetle is known by many names depending on the regions in Kerala, such as Oteruma, Koteruma, Olachathan, Olaprani, and Karinjellu. They are small and black or brown in color. They are attracted to light at night. They are commonly found in kitchens, storerooms, and old furniture parts. Although they do not cause much damage to humans directly, they multiply dangerously and spread very quickly to houses and other buildings, multiplying on windows, doors, household appliances, and food items, creating a big challenge to human life.
